Getting Started on the Hydro Dynamics FLL Season

A great first place for students to start is the Challenge Overview. https://firstinspiresst01.blob.core.windows.net/fll/hydro-dynamics-challenge-letter.pdf

This 3-page document describes the main parts of this season...Core Value, Robot Game, and Project.

Sometimes it helps to see the Robot Game model and how they need to move. This video from FLL Team 9646 does just that. http://safeYouTube.net/w/R7Mb

This is the full Challenge Guide. It is essential to refer to this (and the Challenge Updates) for exact details throughout the season. It becomes more familiar the more you read through it. https://firstinspiresst01.blob.core.windows.net/fll/hydro-dynamics-challenge-guide-letter.pdf

Fall Robotics League Starts Week of 9/18

There was more interest in forming FLL teams at Gallimore than we anticipated. In our first season participating as a club, we have 70 students on 10 teams! Thank you, especially, to the parents volunteering to coach and to assist at meetings. All of these teams would not be possible without you!

Teams will begin meeting on Monday, September 18th or Thursday, September 21st. Meeting times will be 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Emails will be sent confirming the day for which your child is assigned. We are looking forward to a fabulous season!

Gallimore Robotics Club Seeking Sponsors

We are looking for one or person to take the lead on seeking local sponsors for Gallimore Robotics. We did this very successfully in our inaugural season two years ago. To recognize and express appreciation for donations to our group, sponsors logos were printed on the back of our team t-shirts. This year we'll have almost 100 shirts for the fall season alone! Let us know if this is a role you would be willing to take on and we will give you more information about how we gathered sponsors in the past.

Fall Robotics Teams (FLL) Now Forming

know this is short notice, but we will have a Kick-Off Meeting (parents and students) for 4th/5th Grade fall robotics on Monday, September 11th from 7-8 pm at Gallimore Elementary. Team meetings will start as soon as possible after that.

If your child is interested, it would be helpful if you complete this form (https://goo.gl/wiu2ZK *this form is specific to Fall interest in FLL*) before Monday so we can gauge interest and start to form teams.

**Note: We will also offer a separate 4th/5th grade winter/spring Robofest league (see https://robofest.net/index.php/current-competitions). We will send out another email in late fall when we are organizing Gallimore teams for this league.**

Fall Robotics League Summary
Our fall robotics league will be FIRST Lego League (FLL). In an FLL competition, teams are scored on a robot game, research project, and teamwork/FLL Core Values.  To get an idea of what to expect this year, see the season video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G35CsFVKSjY&feature=youtu.be and flyer https://firstinspiresst01.blob.core.windows.net/fll/hydro-dynamics-challenge-letter.pdf .

The FLL season runs September through the December Championship Competition. Teams will typically have two 90-minute meetings per week: one at the school for robot work, and one at a location determined by the team for research. We plan to host a Monday evening league and a Thursday evening league. The cost is around $50 per student. Two registered coaches are required per team of 6 to 10 students.

We look forward to involving as many students as we can in robotics this fall!
